Here are some care instructions to help you maintain your precious one of a kind dead good pieces:
* Avoid contact with harsh chemicals: This includes perfumes, hairsprays, cleaning products, lotions, and hand sanitizers. These substances can damage the resin and bone, causing discoloration, dullness, or even cracking over time.
* Remove jewellery before showering, bathing, going out in torrential rain, swimming, or washing your hands: Resin is water-resistant, not waterproof. Prolonged exposure to water can weaken the resin, making it dull and can cause damage to bone.
* Protect from extreme temperatures: Avoid leaving your jewellery in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in freezing temperatures. Extreme temperatures can cause the resin to soften, warp, or crack over prolonged exposure.
* Store properly: When not in use, store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. A jewellery box or pouch is ideal, or you can hang your pieces on a jewellery hanger as long as its away from direct sun or extreme temperatures or damp.
* Handle with care: Avoid dropping or banging your jewellery against hard surfaces. Resin and bone can be delicate and may chip or break if mishandled.
Cleaning
* Use a soft cloth: Gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dirt or oils.
*You can clean resin pieces with a soft cloth and a small amount of polishing agent such as Peek ( this will only work if you havent previously got the piece wet over prolonged periods)
* Avoid abrasive cleaners: Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners on your jewellery. These can damage the surface of the resin and bone.
Bone Care
* Bone is porous: It can absorb oils and moisture, so it's important to keep it clean and dry.
* Avoid soaking bone: Do not soak bone in water or other liquids.
* Condition bone occasionally: You can use a small amount of coconut oil and a cloth to clean the bone.
Resin Care
* Resin can scratch: Be careful not to scratch the surface of the resin.
* Polish resin occasionally: You can use a soft cloth hand a small amount of polishing compound designed for plastics (i use peek) to polish the resin and remove minor scratches.
Additional Tips
* Put on jewellery last: Apply perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions before putting on your jewellery to minimize contact with chemicals.
* Remove jewellery before engaging in activities: Take off your jewellery before exercising, doing household chores, or engaging in any activities that could expose it to harsh chemicals or impact.
*Taxidermy jewellery such as the pheasants head necklace can be cleaned by gently dusting, if it does become dirty somehow you can carefully wash it with soap and blow dry it (trust the process on this one) but you can always reach out if you have issues. And you must keep specialist taxidermy pieces away from insects and extreme temperatures and moisture.
*Soldered pieces can be buffed with a cloth.
By following these care instructions, you can keep your dead good resin and bone jewellery looking beautiful for years to come.
